How does Belle Luce choose the ingredients for its skincare products?

An ingredient list doesn't tell the whole story of a skincare product. What matters is why each ingredient is there, at what dosage, and what has been verified before it touches your skin. Here is our method.

1. Starting with an alpine plant, and knowing where it comes from

Our facial skincare is built around edelweiss, the iconic plant of the Alps. The extract we use comes from Valais. Its signature active ingredient, leontopodic acid, is an antioxidant studied in the laboratory for its ability to protect the skin from oxidative stress.

2. Dosing so that the active ingredient counts

An active ingredient cited at the beginning of a description but present only in trace amounts adds no value. Our Edelweiss Day Cream and our Eye Contour Elixir each contain 3% edelweiss extract. The Elixir also combines 3% Fucocert®, a natural biotech active ingredient obtained by fermentation of plant sugars, dosed at the level studied by its manufacturer.

3. Verifying the safety of every formula

Like any cosmetic sold in Switzerland and Europe, every formula is subject to a safety assessment by an expert before it is placed on the market, notably based on stability tests. The Eye Contour Elixir has additionally undergone dermatological and ophthalmological tests for the delicate eye contour area.

4. Being transparent about fragrance and allergens

Some of our products are scented, such as our shower gels and our body scrub, while others are not, like our Calendula Balm, which is fragrance-free. When a formula contains fragrance allergens above regulatory thresholds, we declare them on the packaging. If your skin reacts to fragrance or a known allergen, check the complete INCI list, available on each product page.

5. Choosing raw materials of identified origin

  • glycerin of plant origin;
  • Swiss glacier water in our Edelweiss Day Cream;
  • ingredients certified organic by Ecocert or COSMOS Organic whenever possible;
  • no ingredients of animal origin, with one exception: beeswax in our calendula balm.

6. What independent evaluations say

The Yuka app analyzes the composition of cosmetics and assigns a score out of 100. Here are the scores for our products:

All of these scores fall into the app's "Excellent" category.

The Eye Contour Elixir, composed of 99.7% ingredients of natural origin, was also awarded at the European Natural Beauty Awards 2025 in Paris (Label Award – Excellence Special Honor).

7. A recognized Valais commitment

Belle Luce is a certified "Valais Entreprise Engagée" (Committed Valais Company). Four of our skincare products carry the Valais Wallis brand, which distinguishes products from Valais: the Edelweiss Day Cream, the Eye Contour Elixir, the Nettle Oil and the Calendula Oil. We work with suppliers and printers in the region.
